The concept that evolved into the "Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest"™ envisioned by the Loccisano family, owners of Rocco's Pizzeria on 5th Avenue, was as a way to thank the community with a celebration, but also an event to raise much-needed funds for local charities.
Staged during the annual Bay Ridge 5th Avenue Festival the first Sunday every June ensures the competition is always well-attended. Event organizers at Rocco's Pizzeria solicit donations to support several local charities in the Bay Ridge and New York Metropolitan area. All proceeds after paying expenses associated with the Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest are donated to local charities that have a presence in the Bay Ridge community.

"This event brings together some of the most gluttonous, insatiable, voracious contestants imaginable, pitted against one another in a desperate battle competing for prizes, but more importantly, bragging rights and the opportunity to defend their crown at next year's Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest.
Giving Back to the Community...
"This neighborhood has been so wonderful to us over the years that we wanted to give something back," says Joseph Loccisano, who co-owns Rocco's with his brother Danny. "Considering the traffic we expect and the publicity we draw for the contest, we decided we should do something special for an important charity... "
This contest is the embodiment of what Rocco himself stands for and his belief that success is based on what you put into it and always remember to give back to people who need help. That's what Joe and Danny are doing with the "Annual Brooklyn Pizza Eating Contest." Giving back to a community that has been so generous and loving to them.
This event is a true collaborative effort. Local businesses and organizations across Bay Ridge have gotten behind Rocco's to make each year's contest extra special. For instance, the 5th Avenue Board of Trade has provided logistical support to the organizers, while helping coordinate with other local businesses. Other businesses donate goods or service for charity raffle. And, local printers help off-set the entire costs of printing promotional materials.

How to Enter
The Annual Brooklyn Pizza
Eating Contest
Every year, contest organizers select up to seven contestants to compete each year for the title of "Brooklyn's Pizza Eating Champion." The top two contestants receive an automatic invitation to compete for next year's event.
Due to the overwhelming demand, Rocco's will review competitive eating backgrounds of all applicants and those who qualify will be put into a random drawing to select the additional contestants for the competition. That drawing will be held the week of the competition and the results posted on this website.
Enthusiasts interested in entering the drawing to compete in this year's competition are requested to submit their application by May 30th. Late entries will not be considered for the drawing.
The competition's organizers reserve the right to reject applicants at their discretion to ensure an acceptable level of competition is achieved.
